It is absurd when a president or any other political official after winning the elections looks all happy and illuminated. Greeted by the crowd they smile as if they just won the marathon. Cheered by their peers they parade in front of the public as if they just were awarded the nobel Peace Prize. They pose for pictures and wave their hands as if they were nominated for the Academy Awards. The most difficult part - the elections- is over, they think to themselves. Their eyes are shining as if they just won the lottery and are about to have a two-year holiday in the heart of a paradise. They are preparing to have a big time.
What is there to be so happy about? The high salary, the reputation and prestige, the acquired power? How about the responsibility? The burden of having such power that allows one to help the deprived, to save lives. And people are being starved every minute, lives are being taken every second. Consequently every minute spent on drinking coffee, chatting about weather, playing golf results in inaction causing more and more deaths and suffering. Inaction is an indirect cause of people's suffering.
They should rather remember the number of their cardiologist, because the heart of a human being should not withstand being a witness of so much human suffering. Having the power and authority to help, they should feel responsible and their hearts should ache, because it is not possible to help everyone, but only a few at a same time.
Someone who is going to serve in the government is taking up the responsibility for the people of their country as well as the people of the whole world. They should take on their position with the attitude of a Jesus going up to Golgotha, prepared to sacrifice their health and time to saving people's lives.

On this picture Bill Clinton is together with the survivors of genocide in Rwanda. And it is not his smile itself that bothers me. It is the easy-going approach to such serious issues as massacre of the innocent people. The smile simply reflects his light attitude. What is politics if not a big masquerade with politicians trying to cover up their inaction with sweet words and pleasing smiles...
